Dealing with Wrinkles

by Dane Masters

As generations pass, it seems the desire for eternal beauty only grows stronger. Or maybe it’s the desire for eternal youth. Is there really a difference? Now days, society claims the two go hand in hand. As if you can’t have the beauty part without the youth part. Who ever officially announced this concept anyway? Has the current media warped our delicate minds? Regardless of its origins, youthful beauty is without a doubt all the rage in more contemporary times. Our society has deemed wrinkles taboo. This may be the reason so many individuals these days are struggling to remove wrinkles and keep them from rearing their ugly head. What wrinkle solutions sit on your bathroom counter?

None of us can stay young forever, but most of us will at least try pretty hard to slow down the process. Whether you are young and trying to stay that way, or starting to notice those pesky crow’s feet and laugh lines, there are many ways that wrinkles can be taken care of, if you have the time and patience to keep trying until you find the right solution.

Probably the most successful way to look younger is to have plastic surgery. Surgeons can tighten the skin to make it look younger and more elastic. This is of course risky because of the use of general anaesthetic, as well as the possibility of infection or other complications. If you must have younger skin though, this will work every time.

If you can’t afford surgery, or just don’t want to do it then you might want to think about Botox, which involves injecting a solution under parts of the skin which will then paralyze the nerves and muscles around the injection site. This relaxes the muscles around the face which makes wrinkles less noticeable. Botox needs to be repeated every few months to remain effective, so you may want to factor that into your decision.

Other ways to remove wrinkles are a tad less intimidating. Have you taken a browse through the latest anti-wrinkle creams and treatments? In all honesty, there are more than a few to go around. Jump online and you will be flooded with creams and serums that help remove wrinkles. If you don’t already know, one of the most effective routes concerning wrinkles involves starting young. Begin taking care of yourself at an early age. This way you will prevent those fine lines from appearing immediately after you hit 30. Because let’s face it, you don’t need to remove wrinkles if you don’t have them in the first place.

Argireline: How it works in Anti-Aging Creams

by Julie Samtsonn

Wrinkles in the facial skin have various causes. They are part of the natural aging process, as skin cells lose fat content, elastin and collagen, over exposure to the sun over a period of time, and repetitive facial gestures, such as squinting or pursing the lips in the case of smoking. In addition, the skin cells lose their ability to retain moisture, as the fat contents become depleted, causing once plump cells, to take on the look of shriveled, dead skin cells and the underlying facial muscles to lay in a position they have been trained over time. This is where the smile lines, frown lines, eyebrow and forehead lines and crow’s feet lines start forming.

In anti aging creams, the objective is to keep the lines and wrinkles from forming in the first place, and in the case of anti wrinkle creams, the purpose is to try to retrain the skin cells, to retain moisture and skin muscles to relax the positions they have formed over the years to cause certain skin wrinkles, as in the smiles lines and crow’s feet. There are methods of “rebuilding the skin structure” or “remodeling skin cells”, as it has been referred to. It usually involves the use of peptides, which is a wound healing process, much like in the case of burn victims, where the skin is remodeled to encourage new skin growth.

In the case of facial and skin muscle regrowth or retraining, peptides have been used, as a sort of muscle relaxer, as peptides tend work on a deeper level than some topical cream treatments. Argireline is a trade name for Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, which as the name implies is a peptide, a synthetic anti aging chemical derived from natural proteins, making a chain of amino acids, which can be used to stimulate muscle relaxation and reflex reactions, that can be the underlying cause of a wrinkle appearing in a certain position over time.

Argireline has been found successful to reduce the muscle reactions over a period of time, with slight improvement over a 4 week period, and twice the results in a 27 week usage. As with any anti aging cream or anti wrinkle cream treatment, once it is stopped, it is usual that the wrinkles will reappear to an extent and the natural muscle reactions will cause the newer skin cells to become retrained to appear to wrinkle with the fold of the underlying skin muscles.

Argireline, by the nature of it’s treatment of the underlying muscles versus treatment of the surface skin cells, make it much like a topical form of what Botox, by injection to the muscles does. The relaxation of the facial muscle contractions is a temporary solution, even with Botox. Manufacturers of Argireline use less than a 10% ingredient composure, as a higher concentration could have adverse effects, by relaxing the facial muscles too much and resulting in sagging. While Argireline has not been on the market long enough to measure long-term effects, it appears safe and effective as an ingredient in topical anti aging creams and anti wrinkle creams, and is available in many formulations on the market.

What Is Kinetin And Is It Helpful In Anti Aging Creams?

by Julie Samtsonn

When looking at various anti aging creams and anti wrinkle creams, there are different active ingredients that are commonly used; Retinol-based, Hydroxy acid based, Antioxidants, Copper peptides, Coenzyme Q10, or Kinetin. Anti-aging creams and anti-wrinkle creams work on the basis of moisturizing new cell growth, while getting rid of the upper layer of dead, dry skin cells. In the case of Kinetin, it can sometimes be found in conjunction with an exfoliate, or by itself on the premise that the dead skin cells will eventually come off on their own and the new moisturized cells will emerge.

Kinetin is classified as a “super moisturizer” and is found natural in plants, as a plant growth hormone. It is the growth hormone in plants, that replenishes a broken or pruned branch with twice the growth it had before, therefore, it is like a healing compound. Many people will use Kinetin, in place of Retinol based treatments, because of side effects caused in some individuals by Retinol.

In cosmetics, Kinetin is often used in the form of coconut milk or aloe, or other plant derivatives. While Kinetin is believed to be a moisture retention agent found in anti aging creams and anti wrinkle creams, it’s real benefits have been unproven. While skin treatments that advertise hydrating results, will naturally have an effect on dry skin cells, which will make skin appear dry, or aged and lacking a glow, Kinetin products will sometimes claim it is best used by persons in tropical type climates, where excessive moisturizing is needed and may be too much for persons not needing the excess moisture.

There have been many advances in anti-aging creams as well as anti-wrinkle creams and not a lot of products on the market are able to boast the natural plant growth ingredient of Kinetin. Many of the creams that had used Kinetin in the past are no longer being sold in stores and, if they are, it’s usually to exhaust the product in inventory before it is discontinued.

There are so many choices in the skin care treatments, with some having staggering prices, but not necessarily more effective than cheaper items, that it is best to do research on what options work best for you. In the anti-aging creams, many of them are based on keeping the skin hydrated, and retaining moisture, and this is where Kinetin would certainly fit the bill. It may be that it is too expensive to manufacture as a moisturizer, so claims by some cosmetics companies may not justify the benefit/cost expectations of customers, and it is being phased out as a major factor as newer choices become available.

Kinetin is still a good option that is used for things like exposure to UV rays and it is a good choice for people needing a natural chemical treatment without the stronger chemicals. The fact that it is slowly being phased out of the anti-aging creams and anti-wrinkle creams available may just be a sign that it is not as strong as what is available in other creams. However, for people with sensitive skin it might be a very good option.

Exploring Over The Counter Acne Treatments

by Steve Meyer

Nonprescription medications are adequate for most acne. If you can begin getting in the routine overall skin care, over the counter solutions do an adequate job of getting rid of your acne immediately.

Let me point out the differences in some of the non prescription solutions.

Resorcinol is another widely used OTC medication and is adequate in many cases, especially when combined with other compounds such as sulfur. It functions by crushing hardened skin, leading to more adequate removal from the follicle and the area outside. That also produces less odds of clogging, a major factor in acne formation.

Don’t use in conjunction with astringents such as alcohol.

One of the most common - and most effective - treatments possible for mild acne, benzyl peroxide is used daily by millions. It works by helping combat the bacteria that are partly responsible for acne in the first place: Propionibacterium acnes. It also helps to remove dead skin cells from the area. If those don’t move to the surface where they can be sloughed or washed off, they can accumulate, upping the odds of getting acne.

Benzyl Peroxide has been in use for decades so the pros and cons are well known. One possible side effect is overly dry skin. It can also bleach fabric, and so should be used with care when treating acne while dressing.

The chance of side effects can be reduced by using the proper amount. If a 2.5% concentration is working, don’t assume that 10% is better, or will work quicker. Increased dosage only increases the odds of side effects without any noticeable value.

Routinely sold in the form of pads, salicylic acid helps break down blackheads and whiteheads. It slows down the process of shedding dead skin cells inside the follicle, that will help with lowering build up. It also helps to remove shedding dead skin cells, which helps prevent bacteria build up in the sebum (skin oil) inside the pore. Also, it will be safe and effective for you to use salicylic acid, because it is the active ingredient in aspirin.

There you have it. Now you know a little bit more about getting clear skin and keeping it that way. Make sure that you don’t combine any of these treatments, unless your dermatologist has asked you to. Be sure and read the directions on what ever product you select and follow them carefully. If you find that after a couple of weeks your acne persists, or even gets worse, return to your dermatologist to let them know what’s going on. They may recommend a stronger treatment, like a prescription medication.

Comparing Anti Aging Creams with Anti Wrinkle Creams

by Julie Samtsonn

There are countless products on the market today, so it is important to understand some fundamental differences. Some can be quite expensive but price does not always mean good results. And putting anti-aging creams against anti wrinkle creams, can mean two totally different products. The results from either can vary based on the ingredients and the individual using them.

Anti aging creams, typically try to stop wrinkles before they show, so these solutions do a special job. Wrinkles occur when surface skin cells loose their moisture, dry up and then eventually die. They do this because they are rich in emollients and oils that act as moisturizers. This makes the skin ’super moisturized’ and less likely to develop wrinkles. This is why people still in their twenties use the cream, to keep their skin hydrated and looking youthful.

On the other hand, anti wrinkle creams work hard to reduce the appearance of wrinkles that have already occurred. Wrinkles can occur through natural aging but also as a result of excessive to the sun’s ray, a lack of moisture, or even repetitive facial expressions caused by things like squinting or smoking. There are different types to choose from: Retinol A (Vitamin A derivative), Hydroxy Acids (remove dead cells), Copper Peptides ( healing of wounds), Kinetin (moisture retaining) or antioxidants (removes toxins).

It is important to note which category you fall into, as that will depend on your outcome. If you fall in the anti aging cream category, that is wrinkles have not yet appeared, then your options are pretty wide open. Depending on your skin type, the object is to keep your skin moisturized without causing other problems such as excess oil. If you have naturally dry skin, you need to replenish natural oils and if you have excessively oily skin, astringents used as drying agents to prevent acne can dry your skin, but you need to use a water-based moisturizing anti aging cream, versus an oil based one, to keep the moisture balance before skin becomes dry and the dead, shriveled cells appear as fine lines and wrinkles.

Of course, when it comes to anti aging creams versus anti wrinkle creams, the best cure is prevention. It is advised to stay out of excessive sun exposure, avoid smoking, and prolonged hot baths to avoid skin drying in the first place.

Anti wrinkle creams can work in varying ways, depending on the damage done. It is best to start when you first see signs of fine lines or wrinkles. Antioxidants prevent the breakdown of elastin and collagen. Retinol A, Vitamin A is essential for healthy appearing skin and Hydroxy Acids remove the surface dead skin cells revealing younger, healthier appearing skin, like a microdermabrasion treatment.

The conclusion of all this is that anti aging creams and anti wrinkle creams do slightly different jobs. The best place to start is with finding your skin type first, as well as whereabouts you are in the process. Everyone has different needs.

Cellulite Reduction: Here’s A Proven Plan Of Attack

by Lisa Adams

If you are one of the millions of women who have spent money on cellulite creams and lotions, let me ask you a question … did they work?

For your sake, I hope they did, because no woman wants cellulite, on their thighs, rear ends or anywhere. The fact is, cellulite is present on just about every woman over the age of puberty, and there are hereditary factors at play as well. Some of us, though, have more visible cellulite than others.

And for those of you that have plunked down your hard earned cash for so-called miracle cellulite solutions that haven’t worked, let’s talk about real solutions. It’s very easy to buy into hype. Unfortunately, hype doesn’t have staying power. If you’re finding your cellulite has staying power though, here’s some straight talk facts and an action plan to finally reduce cellulite.

First off, cellulite is fat. There, we said it. Cellulite is fat just like any other fat, except it usually looks worse. Even though we’re bombarded every day by marketing messages claiming an instant miracle cure to melt away fat, all those pie in the sky promises do is leave you disillusioned and disappointed.

If you’re finally ready to get past the instant cure mindset, you can indeed significantly reduce cellulite. Will getting results mean changing your lifestyle? Yes, probably. Will reducing cellulite mean you’ll have to work at it a bit? Definitely. But if you carry through with a sound, reasonable action plan, will you see the results you want? Absolutely!

OK … here’s an action plan to help you reduce cellulite, once and for all. First, let’s talk about your diet. Not a diet, YOUR diet. Don’t go on a fad diet that says you have to eat celery and carrot sticks (you get the point). That’s not reasonable and you won’t stick with it. My recommendation is to change your lifestyle gradually. Eliminate one fast food meal per week and pack a healthy lunch instead. Substitute a glass of water for that latte or soda once per day. Little changes add up over the course of time. If your goal is more near term, implement these changes more quickly.

Next, you’ll need to commit to some aerobic activity. It really isn’t that hard, and we’ve got an easy to follow, but challenging, treadmill workout that’ll really burn calories and tone your problem cellulite areas. Here goes …

Plan for a 45 minute treadmill workout. If you’re just starting or have restrictions, substitute walking for running in our example. A friend and I have been doing this workout for 6 months, and it’s an outstanding fat burning workout. For the most part, you’ll break up the 45 minutes into 5 minute intervals to keep things fun, fresh, and challenging. Spend the 45 workout doing this:

1. 5 minute warm up walk at whatever speed works for you.

2. 5 minute walk at the same speed but with the treadmill incline at 5 degrees.

3. 5 minute jog, incline at 5 degrees, at a speed that requires you to jog.

4. 5 minutes, back to walking speed, at treadmill incline 5 degrees.

At this point, you’ve completed 20 minutes, you’re warmed up, and your heart rate is up. Perfect! Now it’s time for 15 minutes of interval training. This will be more challenging, but should be easy enough since it’ll be in 3 minute increments. 3 minutes x 5 intervals = 15 minutes.

Interval One: Run/Jog 1 minute at treadmill incline 6 degrees. Now walk two minutes, reducing speed but leaving the treadmill incline at 6.

Interval Two: Run/Jog 1 minute at incline 7 degrees, walk 2 minutes at incline 7.

Interval Three: Run/Jog 1 minute at incline 8 degrees, walk 2 minutes at the same incline.

Interval Four: Run/Jog 1 minute at incline 9 degrees, walk 2 minutes also at 9 degrees.

Interval Five: Run/Jog 1 minute at incline 10 degrees, walk 2 minutes at incline 10.

You’ve now completed 35 minutes. It’s time to start cooling down!

5 minute walk at incline 5 degrees.

Finally, a 5 minute cool down walk with no incline.

That’s 45 minutes, and you’ve gotten a great fat burning workout, with particular emphasis on your cellulite problem areas (thighs and rear end). The best part about this workout is it’s easily adaptable. You can alter this workout to make it harder or easier according to your fitness level.

Also, this workout keeps you engaged and involved, and you’ll find the time will move quickly, as opposed to simply walking or jogging at the same speed, which can seem an eternity. Combined with some healthier eating habits, performing this fat blasting workout three times per week will reshape your body in ways you’ve never dreamed possible!

What Antioxidants Do Anti Aging Creams Contain

by Julie Samtsonn

It seems like everyone is discussing antioxidants and how they fight things like free radicals. But, what does all of that mean? Antioxidants are often spoken about like some sort of miracle drug but how they work is really quite simple to understand. They do work, which is why anti-aging and anti-wrinkle creams are using them in their formulas.

Skin cells break down and are then replaced naturally. Additional damage is caused by things like smoking, which strikes at the cell’s DNA. Your skin cells will store a delicate balance of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E and when everything is in balance work together to maintain the skin’s youthful appearance, oxidants and free radicals work against this delicate balance and combined with natural aging can encourage older-looking, wrinkled skin.

With regard to oxidants and free radicals, it is considered that as age progresses, the essential Vitamins can be reduced from the skin cells due to toxins in the cells, these toxins are fundamentally oxidants, or free radicals. So it is considered that if you consume enough anti-oxidants, they should fight off these oxidants that deplete the vitamin levels of the skin cells, and cause dead, dry skin cells that cause older or wrinkled skin.

In the anti aging creams they believe in a topical application of antioxidants, commonly used as a green tea extract. It has been found that in drinking green tea and black tea, there are 10 times the antioxidants that can be found by eating fruit and vegetables. This has been proven when taken internally, however, by applying topically, it should affect the skin cells that are on the surface or have absorbed these antioxidants.

It could be argued that the best way to fight antioxidants and free radicals would be by drinking a lot of tea, especially green tea and black tea. Many individuals are drinking up to 10 cups per day, to fight off the toxins that attack skin cells, and in fact, not only from aging or wrinkling, but also from cancer cell attacks. Scientists have proven that green and black teas contain more antioxidants, than oolong tea, citing the improved skin youthfulness found in Japan and China cultures that drink a lot of tea.

In the case of anti aging creams, green tea extract additives have latched onto this same principle, but results are unknown as far as a topical use. As the premise of antioxidants fighting vitamin loss through internal toxins or free radicals being attacked is more of an internal process, but it is possible some benefit can be gained through external application. This is thought to be the case at least on a short term basis, until those cells die and are replaced by new ones.

It would seem that antioxidants as a cure or prevention in aging and wrinkling, could be more of an internal process, where it could be advised to drink green and black tea on a regular basis, since there is ten times the oxidants as found in equivalent measures of fruits and vegetables. It is unknown with certainty as to the benefits topically, other than short term.

Reduce Cellulite With These Exercises

by Lisa Adams

Cellulite is a stubborn and often mysterious problem. And even though most people associate cellulite with carrying excess pounds, this isn’t necessarily accurate. Let’s take a quick look at what is known to cause cellulite, and how certain exercises can reduce the problem.

Almost all women past puberty age carry some degree of cellulite, although it may not be visible. Cellulite is a progression and occurs in stages. As mentioned, most people think cellulite is a direct result of being overweight, but medical research disputes that notion.

Most medical researchers agree that the biggest cause of cellulite is hormonal and genetic. The genetic aspect applies particularly to body composition and circulatory patterns and disorders. In terms of hormonal factors, estrogen appears to be the hormone that causes cellulite and in many instances makes it worse.

How Certain Exercises Can Help

Diet and exercise have an indirect effect on cellulite reduction, particularly in their role as stress fighters. If you’ve ever been treated for a stress problem, exercise is often a primary recommendation. The same holds true for cellulite reduction. Also, a good clean diet is another factor. Excess fat, salt, and alcohol have negative effects not only on weight and appearance, but stress levels as well.

Let’s be clear … exercise alone can’t eliminate cellulite, but it can help reduce the problem to minimal levels. The effect on reducing stress levels alone should not be underestimated, even though stress reduction is another topic entirely. However, exercise, and specific exercises, have positive benefits on several levels, both mental and physical.

The Specifics

There’s an exercise called the stiff legged deadlift, which might sound somewhat intimidating but it’s really easy to do. This exercise will attack the area where cellulite is commonly found … the back upper part of your legs, i.e. the upper hamstring area. First, stand tall with feet should width apart. Place two dumbell weights in your hands (start light at first, then increase the weight as you become more comfortable with the exercise). Then, with weights in hand, bend over at the waist, keeping your knees straight, until the weights touch the floor or get close to touching the floor. You’ll feel this movement in the back of your thighs and the upper hamstring area. The stiff legged deadlift also burns a surprising amount of calories. Try 2-3 sets of 10 and increase as you gain proficiency. This is an excellent exercise to improve your appearance.

If you belong to a health club, be sure to try a spinning class. Also called indoor cycling, these classes are fun, challenging, and burn a lot of calories. Their effect on cellulite reduction is twofold: you’ll burn calories, tone your legs and rear end, and reduce your stress level … all in a 45 minute or one hour class.

In summary, a number of combined factors cause cellulite, so to combat cellulite a similar approach is necessary. Reduce your stress levels, introduce moderate to brisk exercise in accordance with your fitness level, and institute a healthy diet. You’ll find that within a matter of weeks or months, the cellulite problem will greatly dissipate.

Stainless” Teeth With Teeth Whitening Systems!

by Dane Masters

The earliest teeth whitening system constituted the usage of large dental reservoirs. These had to be loaded with some semi-liquid substance, and kept on the whole night. The sleeper had to be careful not to get the stuff on the gums, which was a rather difficult task considering that the gums surrounded the entire set of teeth, plus the person salivated constantly! The results were not healthy–the gums, along with the teeth, ended up looking bleached! The teeth did become white, but the gums became very sensitive and weak.

Then we were offered a new and improved teeth whitening systemor, actually, product: the gel with the cap and brush connected (which looked just like the White-out wand, really. One painted the gel on each tooth, in the direction of the teeth-up and down, not across-and then stayed careful with mouth fixed in a simian grin so that lips and saliva did not interfere with the bleaching action.

A better system was then developed. This consisted of stiff strips to be attached to each tooth. True, the application was easier and less time-consuming! Unfortunately, the strips turned out to be too stiff to remain against the teeth for long. So as soon as they were removed, there were some white teeth, some grey, some stained and some yellowed! The untouched areas presented all sorts of hues!

The latest teeth whitening system to hit the market is the Ionic White Teeth Whitening System. This novel system involves painting the teeth with whitening gel, and then standing in front of a blue light with the teeth wide open in a smile! This carries on for five minutes. Additionally, the gel is swished thrice during the same session. The gel being sticky and thick, this is a challenging task indeed! A wash would have been so much easier to swish around! Nevertheless, people seem to be quite happy with this latest novelty!

Coming to teeth whitening toothpastes, they are too many to count on one’s fingers. Among them, Smoker’s toothpaste is worth trying. The best one is the Rembrandt toothpaste, though one has to shell out eight dollars for each toothpaste. Even better than the toothpaste is the Rembrandt Teeth Whitening System. A system of trays spread with the whitening gel is used here. The trays are pushed in and taken out of the mouth in five incremental sessions, within a period of about two hours. If the person finishes the treatment before two hours, he/she is free to go. These trays have tabs and are pliable. Additionally, the thick gum stays in place and does not drip or stain the surrounding gums. Each time a tray is removed, the mouth can be aired and the teeth rinsed to get rid off the gel on them.

Now, all the above-mentioned teeth whitening systems can be carried out by the individual himself/herself at his/her convenience. They are affordable and available over the counter at shops. Plus, they are to be used only once in three months or once in six months. Therefore, very few people would like to walk into a dentist’s office and get their teeth whitened, even though the whole process may take just a few high-tech seconds! Most important–”Does your insurance support this expensive cosmetic procedure?
